Smell the Coffee
Don and I had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, just the two of us. Since we had celebrated the holiday the week before with our two daughters from Williamsburg, we had ham instead of Turkey and later watched the latest Pirates of the Caribean film. It was relaxing.
On Friday, we got up, packed and drove to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where we had a wonderful weekend and spent all of Saturday with Don's mom, Momma Betty. (I…

I have so many reasons to be thankful. I'm thankful for my family, especially my children, grandchildren and husband. They all give me such joy (though sometimes I'm joyful to stop pulling out my hair with their craziness!). I'm also thankful I'm healthy, employed and live a good life.
Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. I would be remiss if I didn't mention I'm especially thankful for all the good men and women who are willing to serve in our armed forces. My brother Steve, who passed away in…

Ishaq Israr said… Thankyou lois, I enjoyed your cooking last year, and this year I am sure I will taste them again.
Yes I am coming in May inshaALLAH...:)
Elizabeth H. Cottrell said… I'm just realizing that Don's comment about missing me was actually a note to you two months ago. The reason I thought it was a message to me is because I saw that he was online when I joined last night. I'll figure this out eventually.
Yes, the family cookbook was a labor of love. My mother was a fabulous cook...she still is, but at age 88 and living in a retirement community, she doesn't cook as much as she used to. Her abiding talent was making fabulous things out of whatever was on hand!
How cool that you can display recipes from this site on your Nook. I have a Kindle. Can I do it there too?
Elizabeth H. Cottrell said… Sorry I missed you, Don -- My computer is on 24/7, so I must have walked away.
Lois, my family cookbook project was all done "in-house" since I have a home-based desktop publishing business. It was a simple, spiral-bound book, intended primarily for family members. If I ever want to create a cookbook that is the quality for selling, I'd love to know from you and others what experience they've had along this line.
Elizabeth H. Cottrell said… Thanks, Lois. I do enjoy cooking and sharing recipes -- putting together a family cookbook a few years ago was a wonderful project. I responded to your nice invitation to see what this group is all about. If I don't feel it's a good match, I'll withdraw, but am looking forward to sharing with others.
Hi new RIS friend. I tried chatting with you but got no answer.
